Interesting Facts from A to Z

We want the best for your teeth. That's why we have put some information together here to help you the next time you visit our practice. It can also help you understand more about prevention and other dentistry topics.

A Word About Dental Insurance
Our accounting department will prepare all of the necessary forms for this important benefit. However, we remind you that your policy is an agreement between you and your insurance company, not between your insurance company and our office. We can make no guarantee of any estimated coverage, but we'll do our best to see that you receive your maximum benefits. Please keep in mind that you are responsible for your total obligation should your insurance benefits result in less coverge than anticipated. If you would like to know what your expected coverage will be, we will submit a pre-treatment estimate. Your insurer will generally send a detailed response within 4-6 weeks.

Cosmetic Dentistry and Insurance
Cosmetic procedures are generally not covered by most dental insurance policies; however, partial benefits are often available if the teeth are broken or have previous dental fillings, bonding, or crowns. Also, most insurance companies will pay approximately 80% of the cost for silver fillings on posterior (molar and bicuspid) teeth. If a more expensive porcelain or tooth colored filling material is used, the insurance company usually still pays their percentage based on the cost of the less expensive silver filling.

Preventative care: At least every 6 months

If you take special care of your teeth and they are in good condition, you should come to see us for a checkup at least twice a year. If your teeth are predisposed to problems, you should be on the safe side and make an appointment for preventative care regularly.

Our tip: Come in for a consultation and make the next appointment after each visit.

Start 'em early

Proper oral hygiene habits are learned early.  As soon as your toddler can manage a toothbrush (24-30 months), supervised brushing instructions can create beneficial habits that last a lifetime.  Remember, children under 6 should be supervised at all times as swallowing toothpaste can be harmful.

Cosmetic Dentistry Center of San Diego recommends a first dentist visit somewhere in the third year.  Establishing regular visits at a young age has proven to improve the health and stability of adult teeth.
